Custom camper and bike transport

The design brief for this van was that it needed to carry a motorbike and be a comfortable campervan.

Unique layout and design

The owners brought me a van for converting. It already had windows but was badly lined/carpeted and pre-wired with unsuitable wires.

After discussing the project I devised a layout which suited their needs and offered the flexibility of a motor bike transporter and a very comfortable campervan for long trips away.

Bespoke kitchen unit

Birch ply unit built for storing their cooker and food cupboard at the front, it also has a large deep compartment at the rear of the unit accessible by lifting  a section of the worktop. I placed the usb socket and voltmeter at the back corner of worktop.

Custom foldout sleeping module

Slide out bed was custom made using a steel frame and ash slats, and offers large storage underneath.

This is accessible through two doors on the front panel, with a battery compartment housed under the back section of the bed.

The door on the back panel gives access to this compartment and is built to hold two 110amp batteries and the fuse box. I left enough  space to store longer items upto the full length of the bed if required.

Motorbike tiedown

Motorbike front wheel stand fitted and tie down hooks added to support the bike in transit.

Electrics & batteries

New leisure battery with split charge relay charging system and fused 12volt lights, usb and lighter sockets and voltage meter.

The cab lights and radio were also linked to the leisure battery.

All wiring is housed in trunking when passed through the bodywork of the vans I work on for guaranteed  protection against short circuiting.

Flooring and van sides

A new ply floor and side step put in before laying the Altro vinyl floor.  The wall panelling was and stripped back and removed to re-wire and to set in the LED lights. The panels were replaced and I used mega stretch  carpet to give a clean finish.
